How do we carry on living, afterwards, when we’ve grown up with a dictatorship, when we shaped our lives under this dictatorship, when it’s part of us? Digging where it hurts is what I have done in Roumania for my previous films (family secret under communism dictatorship & immigration after the fall), it’s also what I’m doing in France and Roumania for 2 of my future films (about incest), and this interest has drawn me to Germany, to its innerland scar (working title "Borderland"). ................................................................................................................................................. Vanina Vignal trained as an actress at the Jacques Lecoq International School of Theater and Movement, and the National Theater Conservatory of Romania. Her theater work has given her a subtle perception of drama embedded in people’s everyday lives. She then worked as an assistant editor and an assistant director, before turning to her own projects. ................................................................................................................................................. She begs to survive although she dreamt of finding a job in France. THIS SCENE shows my close relation to the people I am filming. I do not make interviews, I have conversations. The people I am filming speak to me like to a friend, on eye level. Therefore, I am also a character of the film. +SAMPLE OF WORK N°2 : "After the Silence" talks about how state abuse influenced a whole roumanian family history - drowned into silence. THIS SCENE reveals how long ago lies the origins of my last film (shot after the roumanian coup d'état called "revolution", in Bucharest). I choosed it because it is an example of how filming is part of my life: my films really nourishes my life and my life really nourishes my films. A voice over was very untypical for me, but the film needed it. A very delicate embroidery work, and for me the discovery of the power of the written words. This experience opened new perspectives, in documentary (Borderland with Johanna Straub) as well as in fiction (The meat). .................................................................................................................................................
